ADOPTION DAY
Today was a big day. We finalized the adoption and Gracie is
now officially our daughter.
We left early this morning to go back to the Civil Affairs
Office. Our guide took the
paperwork we completed last night and we had an interview. They
asked us if we are
happy with this baby, of course we said yes. After a few other
questions they approved us
and we are now her parents. The official gave us a lovely
porcelain vase as a gift from the
Jiangxi province. The best gift was Gracie, though.
We had time to mingle with the nannies and the orphanage
director. Watching the nannies
interact with the babies was a priceless gift. They seem to
really love the babies. They
had all of the girls giggling and smiling so big. One of the
nannies took all of our email
addresses so they can stay in touch. It was a very sweet scene.
After we said goodbye to the orphanage staff we went to the
Police Station to have our
papers notarized. Again we were asked a few questions and one of
them was if we are
happy with the baby... again we said yes. When we left there, we
got the "Red book",
which is our adoption decree. Now all of our paperwork is done
here and we just wait for
Gracie's Chinese passport which we get on Friday.
When we came back to the hotel we had lunch with Jeff and
Cynthia, the couple who
adopted the 9 year old girl. They're a very nice family. After
lunch we hung out in the
room and played with Gracie. She napped for a while and the we
walked to the local
market. That was a treat! There is some really unusual things
here. We had dinner in the
hotel, gave Gracie a bath and she is playing on the bed now.
Our trip has been really busy but great so far. |
