It’s hard to believe, but one year ago our dossier left for China. The relief that I felt after the whirlwind paper chase was unbelievable. I took the boys to Disney in celebration because it would be the last summer without a little one. We rode all the thrill rides stayed out till all hours of the morning and did tons of things that are harder to do with a little one in tow. I came home and decorated and moved rooms so we could get the nursery done. We were in a hurry because we’d get a referral in six months. We’d see our daughter’s face in January of 2006…yeah, right!

So…one year later, it’s been a long wait. There have been ups and many downs. I’ve purchased clothes for winter travel, summer travel and now it seems I’ll need fall travel wear. I’ve collected more “perfect shoes for China” than I care to admit and our house has been taken over by baby things. Where is our baby?!?!

While I don’t know where she is, I do *finally* know she is coming soon. Thinking about my life, all of my kids have made their appearances in the summer. We have birthday season at our house; it starts July 18th and continues until August 21st. All of my boys have birthdays in that 35 day time span so it seems fitting that we will see Gracie’s face for the first time during this time, or at least close.

Right now, in a lovely room with a chandelier in Beijing there are stacks of files. Files for babies from all over China who need homes, files from all over the world for families who desperately want to give these children a home and be able to love them forever. In this room, that we all wonder what goes on, the matching will resume again in a couple of weeks. While we don’t know exactly how it happens there, we do know it’s some sort of magic… fate or divine intervention. The two files will be put together and a forever family will be made.

So, will we get matched this month? I don’t know. I do know that we will be matched very soon and Emma Grace Maharrey will make her appearance in our family during, or very close to, birthday season. It’s been a long year but it’s been worth it and soon we will see the face we’ve been longing to see and be able to hold her and bring her home and be her family forever.

I hope all of my fellow waiters will be joined with their lovely children soon!

Please continue to pray for Gracie.
Pray for her health and that she’s being loved.
Pray that she adjusts to her upcoming changes.
Pray for our family as we begin to prepare for travel and big changes.
