August 21, 2005

Hi everyone, it’s time for an update.  Lots of things have changed since the last update…Chase is 16 *and driving*, school has started slowly (we go full force tomorrow), the house has changed as we’ve been busy painting and decorating and today is Dylan’s 13th birthday.  Now we have two teenagers, yikes!  We have not gotten into the full swing of school yet, but Chase has been involved with the band since mid-July and they just had their first football game.  He’s going to the high school every other day, half a day, for his two band classes.  He now drives himself to school.  He’s started his on-line classes and we start the other subjects tomorrow.  Blake and Dylan will continue music lessons this school year as well as helping start a homeschool band.  Their music teacher is starting it but they’re happy because he’s asked them to help with the beginner students.  They also will now be in the intermediate martial arts class and will be using weapons as well as doing self-defense.  They may get a chance to compete.

We have finished the boys’ rooms and the nursery is almost complete, we just need to add a couple of things to the walls.  I don’t think I’m over exaggerating to say it is *very pink*.  Of course it’s gorgeous, to me anyway.  We have celebrated our one month anniversary of our log-in date, this was last night.  We had Chinese food and even tried our chopsticks.  We all talked and took turns guessing how old Emma Grace is now, if she’s in the orphanage yet and what part of China she’s in.  It was a nice evening.  We have work to do with the chopsticks, though.  This past week, we received our “brown envelope”.  This is very important to us, it means the USCIS has notified the American Consulate in Guangzhou, PRC that we have been approved to bring Emma into the country.   It contains lots of papers we have to take to China and fill out for the adoption.

We have gone to two waiting family dinners and it has been lots of fun.  We get to talk with people in all phases of adoption as well as those who already have their children home.  It really is nice to discuss things with them because they can totally relate to what we’re saying.  I’m also very active in our July DTC group on Yahoo.  We share ideas, thoughts and just chat.  We’re having a quilt square exchange to make quilts for our children.  We also have secret pals.  I’ve received a lovely cd as well as a book from my two pals (I have one in both June and July groups).  We’re doing cybershowers where we send baby gifts to one person.  It’s a lot of fun.

I will wrap this up because we’re having a small party for Dylan and I need to finish preparations.  I just want to thank everyone who has been supportive of the adoption; it means a lot to us.  I know there are people who don’t understand why we’ve chosen to do this and there is probably nothing I can say to convince you.  All I can say is that we feel led to do this.  We know there is a little girl on the other side of the world who is already our daughter and we can’t wait to meet her.  She will be part of our family forever and will bring joy to everyone who has the honor of being part of her life.

In closing, I’d like to share a poem written by an adoptive dad.  He gave me permission to put it on the site.

Daydreaming

I stepped into her room today
Knowing she’s not there
This waiting for referral
Is more than one can bear
But taking in the moment
I sit down on the floor
And dream of her here with me
When waiting is no more.
A little giggle fills the air
As I rub her feet
I place my hand upon her heart
To feel it’s every beat.
A song is sung so very soft
Her eyes begin to close
She’s meeting me in dream land
A place where love still grows.
My vision now is very blurred
The tears stream down my cheeks
I’ve dreamed of her quite often
Throughout these past few weeks.
Suddenly a sound is heard
The phone rings in the hall
Waking up I quickly pray
Please let it be “The Call”.
