BEIJING
We arrived at 5 am China time and had to first do lots of
paperwork due to the lost luggage. We had a 45 minute ride to
our hotel and then had to be ready in 30 minutes
for a full day tour of Beijing. Now remember, no luggage, no
clothes, no nothing! I was smart enough to pack all of my
cameras and cords and makeup... priorities you know!
After a wonderful reunion with my gabby girlfriends who I met
online going through this journey together, we set out for the
usual Beijing tour, Tian'an Men Square, the Forbidden City and
of course the Great Wall.
Most of us thought that the weather would be fairly nice, but we
were wrong It had snowed the day before and it was freezing. Our
coats were in our checked luggage so our friends the
Mitchell's were kind enough to lend us some sweaters. Later on
we actually bought some nice jackets. Jeff, I really did need
it! And if you are wondering, we didn't climb the wall very far.
After seeing my friend Sharon slide down, I really didn't want
to give it a try.
So after 12 hours of touring and freezing we are getting ready
to sleep in a bed for the first time since Wednesday night. The
beds are very hard here, but I really don't think that will
matter.
Luggage update
Our luggage should get here by tomorrow at 5. Only problem is
that we leave for Chengdu at 5. So the airline has told us they
would try to get it there later that night. Originally, we were
supposed to get Maggie tomorrow night, but my guide has now told
me it will be Monday morning. I am actually relieved because
everything I have for her is in the checked luggage. We may need
to go to the local Wal Mart after we get her if the luggage
doesn't come in the night before...isn't this fun? I am not
happy with a certain airline right now.
Goodnight from China~
