Maggie went to bed last night with a high fever, but woke up
cool and seems to be doing fine today. Thank you for your
prayers.
As far as bonding goes, this morning we put her in the high
chair at breakfast and she looked crushed and would not eat when
I tried to feed her. I put her in my lap and spoon fed her
and she was fine. This girl knows what she wants. I assume that
this is all normal behavior for a child who is beginning to
trust. I certainly don't mind, and love that she wants me. She
also had to lay down next to me last night to go to sleep and
then we transferred her to the pack n play. Today at nap time as
long as I was within eyesight, she was fine. Jeff, she can sleep
through anything!
We dosed her up with Advil and headed off to the Panda Research
Center. Kristy and I have been so excited about going there.
Boys, you are going to
love the video I have of the young pandas playing with each other.
Kristy and I both remarked that they all looked like our boys
playing. They were wrestling with
other, pushing each other down and having a ball.
Maggie was not at all impressed with the pandas. Whenever we go
out in public, she is very reserved, but back in the room she
opens up and is a different girl. I
think that she is not used to so many people and places all at
once. She doesn't cry, but clings to me the whole time (yes, I
carried her all the way through the park, and
again, she is not as small as I thought...).
We were like rock stars in the park because so many school
children were there on field trips. When we passed by they would
all say, hello and good morning and wave to us.
Very sweet. And everyone kept commenting on what a beautiful
girl Maggie is...I have to say that I agree!
Tonight our guide is taking us to a shopping market (aka sucker
magnet) to find some souvenirs. Then we will be going to dinner
and then to a tea house. Our guide seems to be
wanting to get everything done today. Kristy and I like being on
the go and Maggie seems to be going with the flow, so we may as
well experience as much of her home city as
we can. It is a wonderful city, very modern and the people are
very stylish. We feel a little out of place in our khakis and
tennis shoes...most everyone wears jeans and
boots, with black being the most predominant color.
Thought we would share some of our funny China observations with
you~
~I had heard that the driving in China was a bit chaotic...
ooooh, you have no idea. You really do have to experience it to
believe it.
Kristy and I wonder why there are even lanes or stoplights since
no one seems to observe them.
People do complete u turns whenever they feel like it, and if
that isn't enough, the drivers are dodging the bikes and the
pedestrians. Kristy has been braving the front seat while I
sit in the back and pray.
~There is no such thing as a line here. While in McDonalds (yes
we have come 6,000 miles to eat at Starbuck's, KFC, Pizza Hut
and McDonalds) people just gathered and it was
survival of the fittest. We had to get a little forceful so
would could order...and thank goodness for picture menus.
~Everyone smokes here and they do it everywhere...yuck! They
also feel very comfortable spitting whenever and wherever they
need to...double yuck!
~In our hotel, the elevator music everyday is the theme to
Chariots of Fire.
~While using a taxi with our guide the driver was listening to
Ann Murray...Mom, I thought of you.
~Squatty potties...use your imagination...we try to avoid using
public toilets unless necessary! |

Trying to tell me something in Chinese?

Finally a picture of the 3 of us...
doesn't Maggie look thrilled?

We have boys, this reminded us of home.
