It seems like yesterday that I was in China, but it has
almost been 2 months since I met our Maggie for the first time.
I will never forget seeing her sweet face for the first time,
and being so sad for her when she grieved that first day.
Since coming home, Maggie has blossomed before our eyes. She is
adjusting well and according to all of the books I have read is
exhibiting all of the signs that she is trusting us. We
sometimes wonder if we are still in the “honeymoon” phase with
her, because she is just so happy. She can be a normal 2 year
old, but all in all, this girl is one of the happiest, easygoing
children I have ever met. I really believed that she would have
a rough transition because of all of her moves, but obviously
many prayers have been answered.
I have been waiting to write this update because I wanted to
wait for all of Maggie’s testing to be done. We are thrilled to
report that Maggie’s heart surgery was a success in China and
she will be able to do anything she wants to do…yippee! We also
had lots of blood work done, which also came out fine. She is
one healthy little girl! The doctors are also amazed at her
development. Other than speech, she is right on target for her
age. I am forever grateful for what she was given both in her
foster home as well as the orphanage. Not only was she loved,
but someone worked with this child. You should see her do a
puzzle, stack blocks, etc. I had expected to have to work with
her on these things, but again, she has amazed us with her
abilities.
As far as her brothers go, Maggie loves the attention. She and
Nate have their moments, but he was the baby before she came, so
this is to be expected. They all love to take turns playing with
her. She and Mitchell have developed a special relationship and
anyone who knows him is probably not surprised!
I am so grateful for how God has placed this child in our
family. He truly does have a plan for where each child needs to
be. I remember reading other families blogs and hearing this,
but to actually witness it is another thing entirely.
Some of you may recognize that Maggie is from Chengdu, where the
earthquake hit this past month. It was very surreal to know that
6 weeks before we had been there picking up Maggie. My heart
just breaks for all of the people of China who were affected by
this tragedy, but I also couldn’t help but think of her birth
family…were they ok? These are things that I will never know,
but one thing is for sure, that Maggie is here and not sleeping
in a tent is comforting to me. Her orphanage sustained minor
damage and everyone is fine, but because of aftershocks, the
children are sleeping outside in tents.
Thank you Jen and Joe for letting us tell our story here. Again,
we hope that we are an encouragement to those who are waiting,
and just maybe someone will choose to adopt an orphan because of
what they have read here.
This will be our last update on this site. If you would like to
follow our blog
here. I try to update it once a
week. |
