LI RIVER AND YANGSHUO
The main event of the day was a cooking class at a sustainable
farm in Yangshuo. The property was rustic and charming with the
gorgeous Jade Hairpins (nickname for the steep green mountains
of the area that we have been posting which are the Karst Peaks)
as the backdrop.
The surrounding farms grew a variety of crops including these
Lotus flowers.
The farm did an amazing job managing our large group and the
food we made was delicious: egg wrapped dumplings, steamed
chicken with mushrooms, stir fried pork with vegetables and
oyster sauce; Yangshuo eggplant, and greens sautéed with garlic.
Both Mia and Annabel got a chance to exhibit their culinary
prowess in front of the rest of the group. They will be cooking
at home a bit more often now that we know they can really do it!
Yangshuo may be our favorite destination in China. We have
posted quite a few pictures of the unique mountains here (Karst
Peaks) which surround the town. Yangshuo has a thriving scene,
great nightlife and shopping. Yangshuo is located in the Guangxi
Provence which is the home to several minority tribes. Their
influences in the colorful crafts and clothing in the town give
it a very ethnic bohemian feel. |
