We're Home

It has only been two months since Annabel was placed in our arms, but it seems much longer. After some trial and error, we have adjusted to being a family of four. Annabel has been so flexible and easy that it really has gone quite smoothly. She sleeps on a very regular schedule, eats like a champ and is, in general, a happy and well-adjusted baby. Every change that she faced, she took in stride. She is such a joy!

All too quickly, our social calendar was full and the pace was hectic once again. Soon after our arrival home, our friends threw a beautiful shower in Annabel’s honor. The theme was Chinese and all of Anna’s favorite foods were served. We then baptized her on Steve’s birthday and, as a result of the combined events, we had quite a turn out of friends and family. She got the opportunity to meet quite a few of her relatives.

Annabel did not know how to crawl when we received her. We had some challenges addressing her desire to be active since she was neither crawling nor walking. She was used to a walker in China as a means to get around, but that style of walker is dangerous and is not available in the US . Fortunately, she began crawling pretty quickly and is now also walking (when she is feeling brave). We are soaking in all of her achievements and she is always so proud of herself.

We have established a morning routine – both Mia and Annabel like to have warm milk/formula first thing in the morning. So before Steve leaves for work in the morning he gets each of them a sippy/bottle which they drink together. Andrea is still working on getting her coffee delivered at the same time. The girls share a room which is working out quite well and I believe is strengthening their relationship. Annabel says dada, mama and is occasionally saying jie jie (for Mia). She has become such an integral member of the family in such a short period of time and we feel that our family is truly blessed to have her.

Sadly, this is our last posting. Thank you so much for following along with this momentous event in our lives. It has made such a big difference that so many of our friends and family read the website and have insight on Annabel’s unique personal history - I think that will serve her well in her life. On a final note, we are trying to minimize the usage of the word adoption as it relates to Annabel. Not because we believe it has a negative connotation, but because we do not want it to be something that defines her. Thanks for your support in that regard.

Much Love,

The Horvath Family
