Today I woke up at 4:00 and just couldn't sleep anymore. I got up and called home, it's great to hear a familiar voice these days! Sophie woke up at about 7:00 and we headed to breakfast with the other family in our group.

We walked around outside for a bit and met up with our guides at 10:00 for a trip to the Guangzhou Zoo. The weather was spectacular, cool with lost of sunshine and a bit of a breeze, very unlike typical GZ weather this time of year! The zoo was very lovely, not the most animal friendly, but beautifully landscaped with magnificent animals. Sophie had a wonderful time there, especially in the children's area. She ventured further from me than she has before, stomping around and running from one fish tank to another pointing and gabbering in baby Chinese. When I put her back in the stroller, our guide Rebecca was holding the handles for me to steady it. Sophie looked back over her shoulder to make sure I would be the one to push her. It was great to see her being so adventurous in the kids area, but then make sure that I was still around when she was done :)

After the zoo we headed back for naptime which lasted a few hours. I even joined Sophie for awhile and didn't wake up until she roused at about 4:30. We got up and headed out to walk around, planning on eating out for Mother's Day. Unfortunately the Cow and Bridge didn't have room for us, she reminded me it was Mother's Day and I told her I already knew that. We settled for the Deli Shop instead and actually had a lovely meal sitting outside eating some beef and veggies with rice. She is so funny and pleasant to be around, we giggled about having sticky fingers with rice and pointed out birds and cars driving by.

Now it's almost bath time and then we'll be off to bed. It was a bittersweet Mother's Day, I cried this morning because I am missing my children terribly, but it has been such a blessed trip and amazing time here with Sophie. And the best gift I could have is knowing my amazing husband is home caring for our family and preparing for our move. I am so blessed!
