Today was Sophie's medical appointment. We met in the lobby at 9:30 after a leisurely breakfast. There really is no other way to eat in Sophie's world. Every meal takes at least 45 minutes and she really picks up steam as she goes along. She also changes her food preferences daily, I can never tell what she's going to like from one day to the next. It's great to have a buffet to choose from, I don't know what I'm going to do once we get home though!

At the physical Sophie weighed in at 29.2 pounds and just shy of 35 inches tall. She is SO big! The 18-24 month clothes I brought for her are too short, I guess there is some shopping in my future ;) Sophie did well with the exam, but she did get frightened when they took her temperature. When they did the 'hearing' exam, she didn't respond. Of course she can hear just fine, she just didn't want to interact with the doctor at the time. The doctor asked me several times if she could hear and seemed content with my affirmative response, and passed her on the exam.

As far as interacting with me, though, she is really starting to come out of her shell. She just babbles and points out things all the time to me. The lets me know what she wants very effectively, we haven't had any real communications problems so far. She's learned to sign "more" and "please". She wants me to hold her frequently, especially when she's woken up in the morning or after a nap, and I happy oblige. She has never really had a problem with eye contact and showing expressions of affection, and we seem to be back on track after our setback at the orphanage.

After her physical we had a free day so we headed to the park. The weather was beautiful so we both enjoyed being outside, especially the local playground. She figured out quickly how to get down the slide, it seemed like it was all such a new experience before, I don't think they had an outdoor playground at the SWI.

After the park we shopped and then headed back to the hotel for her nap. When she woke up she was a little sad and I worried that she didn't want me to be there, but when I offered to pick her up, she clung to me. We headed down to the White Swan playroom and she really enjoyed herself this time, getting toys and wandering around a bit by herself. We ate at Lucy's with a family we met in Nanning and enjoyed the evening. I'm starting to count down the days until we get to head home!
